Nick Stewart

Nick Stewart is World Animal Protection’s Global Head of Campaign on captive wildlife tourism issues. He has led the campaign team over the last 18 months to continue to grow the public and travel industry’s rejection of elephant rides and shows and support for elephant-friendly tourism instead – work for which World Animal Protection was awarded Gold in the Best for Wildlife category at the 2018 World Responsible Tourism Awards.

He also led a global review into travel associations and oversaw the publishing of World Animal Protection’s ‘Associated with Cruelty’ report at World Travel Market 2018, a report which found that travel associations across the world need to do much more to guide their members to protect wildlife.

Nick is now heading up the work to engage the public and the travel industry on the unacceptability of marine mammals like whales and dolphins, being held in captivity for entertainment purposes, a big welfare concern for World Animal Protection and other animal protection NGOs.

Nick has a background in responsible tourism management, having worked for adventure tour operators as well as in the sustainable tourism departments of national park authorities in the UK before moving into wildlife protection campaigning.
